Everest West Ridge 2006

Steve Cobley writes:

On 5th April 2006, we completed an expedition first aid training course with both Andy and Liz Craven. As our expedition was going to take-us to Everest base-camp and beyond, with no local medical help available, we certainly needed to be prepared.

Andy and Liz calling upon their experiences of adventure Kayaking in Nepal as well as first aid provided invaluable information. Their course covered a range of issues from basic first aid techniques, altitude mountain sickness (AMS), high altitude pulmonary and cerebral oedema (HAPE & HACE respectively), common sickness and illnesses on expedition, personal hygiene and health maintenance as well as highlighting effective camp practices to maintain group health.

In addition to course content, Andy and Liz, provided

(i) a resource pack for the team, including signs and symptoms checklists, medical reporting documents;
(ii) provided and recommended key products and equipment for the expedition; and
(iii) gave general guidance and advice specific to our needs.

The course covered a lot of material but mostly was very insightful, helpful and enjoyable. We had some good laughs at the slides and stories. Thanks again!!"
