Friday 15 October.
| Our 2004-8 corporate plan declares that we will evaluate and, where appropriate, extend and embed initiatives to improve student retention which were begun in the previous cycle. We need to be self-confident enough to reflect on internal successes and sufficiently humble to recognize that being outward-looking will help us improve still further. An award-winning outward bound approach to student induction in the Lake District has therefore been an ideal vantage-point this week from which to observe students and staff being refreshed by the running streams of the North, in partnership with the city of Bradford’s world-class team of guest instructors. |

The corporate plan also promises a review of Leeds Met’s work in Ripon. This will begin now that Ofsted are concluding their visit to Harrogate. More broadly, we need to learn from our Ofsted report later this autumn and to promote a free flow of best practice between Harrogate, Ripon, Leeds and our partnerships with other colleges and communities around the region. From ghyll or gully scrambling in the Lake District to scrambling behind the scenes of an Ofsted inspection, it is often when we are under pressure that students and staff find energy, grace and balance through outstanding teamwork.
