Kathmandu Hotels

Hotels and guest houses.

The Kathmandu Guest House, is probably one of the most well known hotels in Nepal and has rooms at most prices.

The Hotel Mt Fuji, is one I've used many times and recommend, a short walk to the north.

Other names to look out for are The Holy Lodge tel. 416265 (near Rum Doodles) and The Acme tel. 414811(near Equator.)  The Vaishali tel. 413968, is more up-market and the rooms are priced accordingly. Expect to pay $45 but there is a pool! Similarly the hotel Marsyandi tel.414105, is nearby.....if a little luxury is what you want, look no further, rooms at $55 to $80.

Directions - With your back to the Kathmandu guest house driveway turn left to get to the Mt Fuji for example, past Green hill tours (UD), Pilgrims books and the North field cafe on your left and Equator is  infront of you as the road bends left. Follow the road around to the right and at the first crossroads stop.

The Mt Fuji is down the left turn, then it's 50yds on the left, for the Vaishali take the right turn, it's 100yds or so on the left. The Marsyandi is straight ahead and on the left.

Above are just a select few of the hotels in Thamel. The Lonely Planet guide for example lists about seventy in Thamel alone and numerous others in different areas of Kathmandu.

In general the budget hotels a good value, clean and most have hot/cold water and en-suite showers etc. Many rely on solar heating for the hot water so a hot shower first thing in the morning is rare.

Many of the hotels will arrange everything you need in Nepal from a tour to Chitwan national park, flights, taxis, tours of the city - you name it. Most will value your custom and you are not likely to get badly ripped off - part of the art is to shop around and then approach your hotel to see if they are offering a similar deal.

If the hotel are sorting out local plane tickets for you the prices are fixed and you are least likely to have a problem there.
