The prices for most hotels have been updated in April 2001. Remember that prices vary greatly
in and out of season. You'll nearly always get a room on the outskirts of Pokhara for 100-150Rs.
It may be that is with a shared bathroom, for en-suite It'll be nearer 200-300Rs. That said, this
is the Room price which is great value if there's two if you sharing.
Virtually none of the hotels have double beds, often the rooms are twins. Another rarity is a
bath! - most hotels have showers. Many have solar heated hot water and so the chance of a hot
shower early morning is unlikely.
If you've just being browsing the Pokhara page you'll be stood on the main road in Lakeside
close to either the hotels Snowland or Meera. This is a good starting point for orientation
and it's where I'd ask the taxi to take you from the bus station or airport.
From this main road there are many side streets running in the direction away from the lake.
I've previously stayed at the Hotel Iceland and the
Sky palace Inn . Both are up the road from
the Meera hotel and offer good value rooms. (The Sky palace used to be called the Mt Fuji) These
hotels have rooms from 300Rs for a double right through the price ranges.
Other places and prices are listed below.
For a bit of luxury, without going to the likes of the massive hotels,
Hotel Holy Heaven
impressed me on my latest visit. It's up the road from Moondance and then on the left. They
quoted $8 for a single and $10 (650Rs) for a double. This includes a bath and TV! I checked
the rooms out here and the whole place was clean and the staff very Helpful.
Hotel Noble inn is on a side street opposite the Boomerang. They
are recommended by Lonely planet and have prices starting at 300Rs through to $25! They are
in a central location and the rooms here were clean and spacious.
The Welcome guest houses is a little further out of town. Their great prices reflect this,
but the rooms are clean and good value for money. Typically they are 100-150Rs for a common
bathroom. Prices increase for doubles, en-suite and during the busy season.
Last but not least is a small place I found at the other end of Lakeside, on the road that
heads to Sarangkot. It's close enough to be handy for all the main bars, shops and restaurants.
The Apex Guest house have great lake-view rooms and cheaper back
rooms. Prices are in the 200Rs bracket and the staff offer free rooms to leaders bringing
groups to the hotel. The hotel is on Khahare Baidam, Lakeside about five minutes walk from
the camping chowk crossroads.
