Wayfarers is an independent travel agency based in Thamel. In the fourth edition of
Lonely planet's Nepal guide they were the only agency in Kathmandu recommended by name. I quote : 'for
straightforward travel and ticketing matters try Wayfarers'
The main reason for my recommendation is their sales style, unlikely to be found anywhere else in
Thamel.
Unlike the push, push, push selling attitudes of most Thamel agancies, Wayfarers tell you
your travel options, typical prices and let you choose in your own time the package for you.
No hard sell - just the different choices and prices on offer.
I found them to be not only straightforward, but also boasting a massive number of services
in Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan. Rafting using the more reputable agencies, Trekking and wildlife
safaris were just some items on their list.
Wayfarers has been established since 1993 and has opened up new ideas for travel in Nepal like their series of
Kathmandu valley rim hikes. These offer a great alternative if you have several days spare in
Kathmandu and you've already done most of the tourist attractions.
With fixed departures on the valley rim hikes and trips from one day to three days they're a great way of exploring the
culture of the Kathmnadu valley away from the crowds and bustle of Thamel.
Wayfarers also offer an onward travel agency for rail, train and air ticketing. They have offices
in Thamel and Pokhara and have an easily used Web page. Contact details are all listed at the
bottom of the page.
